Inclement Weather

What types of delays and closings might occur?: When inclement weather conditions occur, the decision may be made to delay the opening of school by one or two hours, to close school, or to dismiss school early. An announcement will be made for delayed openings or closings by 6:00 a.m. There may also be an announcement made to open schools 2 hours late with a "re-evaluation" period to possibly close schools. Every effort will be made to make the announcement as early as possible.
Where can I find out if there are delays or closings?: All weather-related announcements will be made through the CCPS AlertNow system , the CCPS website, CCPS CETV-Channel 21 and the following media outlets: WBAL-TV Channel 11, WJZ-TV Channel 13, WMAR-TV Channel 2, WBFF Fox 45, WPOC/WCAO/B104.3, WBAL Radio 1090 AM, WTTR 1470 AM, Metro Network V-103 (WXTR, WWLG-AM, WGRX, WCAO, WASA, WANN, WBGR, WJHY, WNAV), Infinity Broadcasting (WQSR/WWMS/WMIX 106.5/WLIF 101.9), WRBS 95.1 FM, WAFY-KEY 103, WGET 1320 AM/WGTY 107.7 FM, WHVR 1280 AM/The PEAK 98.5 FM, WFMD 930 AM/WFRE 99.9.
What is AlertNow, and how do I get it?: AlertNow is an automated service used by school districts across the country that Carroll County Schools use to send messages to parents. You do not need to do anything to sign up. The schools will do that automatically. AlertNow is used to send information on closings and delays, but can also be used for more general announcements, absentee notices etc.

Can I get Before and/or After School Care at MAES and Parr's Ridge?: Yes. Before and After school care options are provided at both schools.
Who are the Care Providers: At Parr's Ridge, the provider is ABC Care. At Mount Airy Elementary, the provider is Celebree
What are the hours?: Before school care is available from 6:45AM to school opening. After school care is available from dismissal to 6:00 PM.

How do I report an absence for my child?: Each school has a dedicated email account for reporting absences. Please see the "Our Schools" information page for the detail of how to report absences at each school.
What are the proper procedures for Parent Pick-up?: Send in a written permission note from home indicating any change in dismissal for your child. Child must be signed out by the parent or guardian.
Can I bring in Birthday Treats for my child?: To assure a safer environment, Birthday Snacks will no longer be allowed in the cafeteria or in the classrooms. Non-edible treats such as stickers, pencils, etc. are welcome.
I'd love to come in and help out in the classroom. What do I need to do?: Before you can volunteer in a classroom, it is a county requirement that you attend volunteer training. See our volunteer information page for all the details.
