Bridge the Gap (BTG) Program

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Bridge the Gap?
Bridge the Gap books are sponsored by the PTA. They are grade specific and are intended to help provide some exercises for children to work on over the summer. The books are intended to help children keep the skills they learned during the school year sharp and prepare them for the upcoming year.

2. Are these books graded?
No. The books are reviewed by PTA volunteers to check for completeness. All students who return a book will receive something. Students that turn in a book that’s 80% complete will receive special recognition.

3. Will my child’s teacher see this book?
No. The books are meant to be a fun activity for children and parents to work on together. Parents are encouraged to help with instructions, point out opportunities for improvement and provide lots of encouragement.

4. When are the books handed out?
At the end of each school year, students will receive a book for the grade they will be entering the upcoming school year. The books have anywhere from 30-40 pages so it is recommended that students work on them a few activities at a time.

5. When are the books due back?
Books will be collected during the month of September. Look for specifics on the PTA website, the PTA newsletter (MAP) and flyers sent home in early September.

6. What is the ‘special recognition’?
The PTA is committed to rewarding great work. Rewards are determined by the PTA committee and can change each year.

7. Will we get the book back?
Yes. Each book will be returned to the student.

8. How can I get involved?
Parents can get involved by helping their child complete their books. Encouragement and support are two of the most important things about Bridge the Gap. If you’re interested in getting more involved, the PTA is a great place to start. You can volunteer to help review the books or become part of the BTG Committee.
