Reading Incentive Program

2007 - 2008 Calendars and Puzzles

Parr’s Ridge and Mt. Airy Elementary Schools are participating in the Pizza Hut Book It reading incentive program which begins October 1, 2007 and runs through March 30, 2008. At the beginning of each month, the student will receive a calendar to keep track of the days he/she participated in any of the various reading activities listed below. These activities should be done at home, and any reading done at school should not be included.

  • Independent reading
  • Read to someone else
  • Was read to
  • Read before and/or after school
  • Attend story time at Public Library or bookstore
  • Read a Bear book (kindergarten)
  • Practice alphabet and sight words using flashcards
  • Listen to story on tape while reading along with a book
  • Work with reading software on the computer

A student should put a check mark on his/her calendar on the appropriate date if any one of the activities listed above is completed. A parent should initial the calendar, and it should be returned to the student’s teacher by the 1st of the following month.

Students who have read for 20 days or more will receive a new book of their choice along with a Pizza Hut certificate. The certificate entitles the student to a free, one-topping Personal Pan Pizza. There is no purchase necessary, and the pizza can be taken to go. On the first visit, you may request a Book It card with a clip and a sticker for the card. On each subsequent visit, the student will receive another sticker for his/her Book It card. If the student meets the reading goals for all six months of the program, Pizza Hut will reward the student with an All-Star Reader Award.

As an extra incentive to encourage reading, our PTA will be giving a special prize to each student who turns in a calendar with at least 20 days of reading for all six months!
