About Volunteering
Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer in the Carroll County Public Schools! In your role as a volunteer, you may have the opportunity to assist teachers and staff with the day-to-day activities involved in providing a balanced education for children. Or you may be a field trip chaperone. Or maybe you'll just help a teacher from home. There are many ways to be a volunteer. No matter how you do it, you will be part of an important team striving to ensure that each and every one of our students succeeds.
Volunteer Training
Before you can volunteer in any Carroll County Public School, you must first attend annual training. You must complete training AT LEAST SEVEN SCHOOL DAYS before you wish to volunteer. And please remember, you MUST renew your volunteer eligibility EVERY SCHOOL YEAR by attendng volunteer training. Training attended during the prior school year will expire on September 30, regardless of how late in the year you took the training. For additional information on volunteer training, contact Volunteer Coordinator Erica Zamensky.

Can't attend training at Parr's Ridge or MAES? Don't worry! You can attend volunteer training provided through ANY school within the Carroll County Public School System (including Mount Airy Middle School). Contact the Carroll County Public Schools for dates and times of other volunteer training sessions that may be more convenient for you.
Recording Volunteer Time
Since our schools report to the county Board of Education the many hours of volunteer work completed for the benefit of MAES and Parr's, we want to make sure we get full credit for all the hours you put in.
Whenever you are volunteering in the schools, you should record your time in the volunteer tracking database using the computer located at each school office. However, in addition to the many in-school volunteers, Mt. Airy Elementary School and Parr's Ridge Elementary School realize that a great deal of "volunteering" takes place outside the walls of the schools (PTA committee work, baking cookies, cutting out items for a teacher.... ). To ensure we properly account for all those out-of-school volunteer hours, we have provided a volunteer hours tracking form to record your hours. Print out the form, fill it out, and return the completed form any time before the end of the school year so that we may include your hours in our reports.
Reminder...
Just a reminder to all our in-school volunteers: Please remember that while volunteering, you may not bring other children, even siblings of a student, into the school. If you can't arrange care for these other children you may not bring them with you to the school while volunteering. This is a county policy and the schools will enforce it.
